Simone and Manda met in college in Ottawa, ON, Canada. While Simone has moved back to her native Trinidad, Manda remains in Canada.

Together they are about to undertake the most difficult 3 months of their entire life together...only...while residing in different countries.

Day 7 - Manda (Weigh In)

As promised...*Drum roll please*........

118.

Thats right. 118lbs. After my first week of P90x I have officially gained .5 of a pound.

Where did i go wrong? I am reluctant to attribute this minor gain to one thing in particular. Could it be water retention? Could it be my eating slip ups throughout the week? Could it be new muscle mass (which i am told weighs more than fat)? I seriously have no idea. I know that when i put on my belt yesterday i quite comfortably had to go to the next tighter loop to keep my pants up so not too sure what is going on.

This morning when i woke up i was sore. That good kind of sore. The i worked really hard yesterday sore. Kenpo was fun and I am feelin the burn today, which, inspite of the pain, or because of it, makes me feel pretty good about myself.

So despite my .5 gain I am not going to let it bring me down. I worked really hard this week and getting through it in one piece makes me want to bring it that much more next week.

I am planning my meals for the week and my goal is to stick to it as much as possible so there is no leeway for excuses at next week's weigh in. I am confident that if i stick with it and push every workout that I will get to my goal. I never expected the results to be immediate and i never expected it to be easy.

I am going to do some Yoga today. Most likely the 1hr Gaiam Yoga Burn. Nothing like an hour spent with Rodney Yee on a Sunday when i could use a good stretch. I thought about doing the X Stretch but I am Tony Horton'd out. The idea of listening to his voice for an hour today does not please me. Need me some soothing, relaxing Rodney Yee.

Havent heard from you in awhile Suhmoeknee. Hope you are sticking with it and that your weigh in today goes more smoothly than mine did. Thank you for keeping me motivated and encouraged. Love you girl!

Day 6 - Manda

Today was my first time trying Kenpo. I didnt get around to takin this one for a test run last week. I must say, I rather enjoyed it. Im glad i did because i was worried about not taking the initiative to workout on a saturday, which is day 6, but now i am confident that not only will i work out on saturday but i will actually look forward to it. You were right suhmoeknee. Kenpo is fun!

I was sweating like i was on fire halfway through this. It was gross. But made me feel mad productive at the same time. By the end of it i was stripped down to my sports bra and a pair of booty shorts and i was soaked to the bone.

I showered and went to get dressed to go to the mall afterwards and had to move to the next hole on my belt. Always a good sign.

I definitely cheated last night though. I had two glasses of champagne with my mom and then we went to the local sports bar to watch the Canada vs Slovakia semi final Olympic Hockey Game. I had three cocktails there as well as some of the chicken nachos my mom and i ordered. So pretty big cheat there.

Feeling pretty damn bloated the past couple days. Girls, i am sure you can guess why. Not sure if my water retention will play into my weigh in tomorrow or not but we will see.

Looking forward to a rest day tomorrow. I think I will still do some Yoga. Or maybe try out the stretch dvd cos i havent tried it out yet.

SIMONE: DAY 4 UPDATE

OK SOO IM SORRY BUT I HATE YOGA AND DONT THINK I COULD COMMIT TO DOING THIS THE ENTIRE TIME .. WHATI DID LAST TIME WAS I WOULD DO 30 MINS OR SO OF IT THEN RUN FOR THE REST OF THE TIME ON MY TREADMILL .. TODAY I DID AN HOUR OF YOGA AND RAN ON THE TREADMILL FOR 20 MINS .. PLUS BEFORE THAT I WALKED WITH MY MOM FOR 45MINS SOOO IM FRIGGIN TIRED .. SORRY YOGA X I COULD NOT FINISH U NOW OR EVER LOL.. BUT SERIOUSLY IT HURTS TOO MUCH AND BORES ME

I THINK IM GOING TO DO AS MUCH AS I CAN WITH THIS DVD WEEK BY WEEK BUT NO PROMISES TO DO THIS WHOLE THING .. BUT I WILL DO THE ALOTTED 1HOUR AND HALF WORK OUT TIME .. THATS A PROMISE.

SOO I HAVE LOTS TO DO .. WORK WISE SOO IM COMBINING THIS POST :)

YESTERDAY WAS GOOD I WAS VERY PROUD OF MYSELF EATING WISE .. THERE WAS A BIRTHDAY IN THE OFFICE SOO CAKE AND SODAS SHARING AROUND .. AND I DIDNT TAKE ANY !!! OMG THAT TOOK SOO MUCH WILL POWER! AS I WAS CRAVING SOME SWEETNESS. ANYWAY AFTER MY CARDIO THE DAY BEFORE AND CORE THE FIRST DAY, YOU KNOW THEY SAY IT TAKES TWO DAYS TO START FEELING A BIT SORE .. AND I DEF WAS FEELING SORE ON WEDNESDAY .. BUT NOT UNBEARABLE :) THE KIND U CAN BOAST ABOUT .. HEY IM WORKING OUT LOL

ANYWAY I WENT HOME WEDNESDAY FEELING REALLY TIRED .. IM SOO GOING TO SWITCH TO DOING THIS IN THE MORNINGS WHEN I HAVE MORE ENERGY .. THIS EVENING THING IS KILLING ME .. IM EVEN MORE INCLINED TO WORK OUT ON EVENINGS ONCE I DO A MORNING WORK OUT HOWEVER ITS VERY HARD TO DO P90X WORK OUTS IN THE EVENING AND WAKE UP EARLY THE NEXT DAY .. ITS SUPER HARD FOR ME ESP WITH PCOS WHERE FATIGUE IS A SYMPTOM .. DAMN U. BACK TO THE POINT I TACKLED THE SHOULDERS AND ARMS WORK OUT FIRST AND DID WELL .. WEIGHTS ARE NEVER TOO MUCH OF A PROBLEM BUT I PREFER CARDIO WORK OUT I FEEL MORE ACCOMPLISHED FOR SOME REASON ... AND I SWEAR WAYYYYYYYYY MORE. BUT I DID WELL 15 REPS FOR EACH EXERCISE WITH 5LBS WEIGHTS AND NO MANDA I DIDNT DO THE BONUS EITHER IM NOT GOING TO DO until month 2 lol

AB RIPPER FOLLOWED I DID SOO WELL UNTIL THE V ROLL UPS AND THEN I STARTED TO FALL APART I DID EVERYTHING UP UNTIL THERE AND THEN TOOK A MINI BREAK ... BUT FINISHED STRONG WITH THE MASON TWISTS I LOVE THAT! :)... I SLEPT LIKE A BABY AND MADE PROMISES TO WAKE UP THIS MORNING TO DO MY WORK OUT BUT ONCE AGAIN WAS TOO TIRED SOO THIS EVENING IT IS ... NEXT MONDAY .. MORNING WORK OUTS FOR SURE.


DAY 4:

TODAY IS THURSDAY AND WELL I FEEL GOOD AND LOOKING FORWARD TO THE WORKOUT TODAY .. WAIT I THINK ITS YOGA ISNT IT? EWWWWWWNESSSSSS I HATE THIS ONE .. 1 HOUR AND HALF OF YOGA .. VERY PAINFUL FOR ME ,,, ANYWAY IM GOING TO GRIND MY TEETH AND DO THE DAMN THING :( .. MY LEAST FAV DAY :(

CHEAT ALERT - Manda

I just ate a Timbit. A sinfully delicious, melt in your mouth chocolate timbit. It was glazed. For the record I do feel weak for doing so. I will only eat the one. Thats the problem with workin in an office. Especially a government office. There are always delicious temptations being brought in for mass consumption.

From now on i will avoid going down to the treasury office where all the goodies are put out daily unless it is absolutely necessary. See no evil, eat no evil... or something like that.

Day 4 - Manda

Who the hell wants to do an hour and a half of Yoga? Seriously. Regoddamndiculous.

I knew this was not going to be easy (P90x not yoga specifically) but I have been trying to limit my complaining. Here it comes though. AN HOUR AND A HALF!!! Way, way too long. I know, I know, make the commitment and just do what Tony says. If you cant find an hour and a half in your day to commit to your physical well being then what are you doing attempting p90x in the first place, right? I know the arguement and I hear you. But that doesnt mean i have to like.

I love Yoga. I really do. I have been doing Yoga for awhile now, long before i had even heard of P90x. Sometimes i do a morning yoga routine when i wake up and an evening one before bed. Sometimes just one or the other. But i do lots of yoga. This one is just way to long. Do i sound like a broken record yet?

Wtih all that complaining out of the way, Yoga X is a very challenging workout. If you thought "Oh sweet, Yoga, a rest" were you ever mistaken. I was really sweating about 30 mins in. After 45mins my legs were shaky and if i had to vinyasa one more time i probably would have passed out (okay so that is a pretty huge exageration but i was pretty tired at this point). To be honest if after the 45mins of seriously hard work he would have went into stretching out for 15mins instead of starting into balancing poses this might have been my favourite video of the week.

Did i mention this video is AN HOUR AND A HALF? Okay, Okay, Im done now i promise.

Glad that i woke up and got this out of the way right away. I am going to try and wake up early to do legs and back tomorrow morning too. Same with Kenpo on Saturday. Get it over first thing.

Simone i know you mentioned before you hated this video so I hope you got through it without too much frustration. You are killin it so far and you are still my inspiration to get to it every day and really bring it.

Day 3 Update - Manda

So I started with Ab Ripper X. Man. Man o Man o Man. I suck. Seriously. Almost pathetically weak in my core. If i going to be really honest with myself and with Simone my core is by far my weakest link. I really need to work at this. Hard. I might try and squeeze Ab Ripper X in 3 days a week instead of two until i get to a place where i dont feel so pathetic.

Shoulders and arms on the other hand was rad. Love this dvd. Felt the burn and loved it. I really want to develop my upper body strength. That and my core are big focuses for me. I bought a removable stripper pole for my house (for play only, no plans on going pro lol) and you really need insane amounts of upper body strength to do anything really cool. Strippers dont get enough credit man. That shit is hard.

Used mostly 8lbs today but rocked out the 5's for the hard ones. Especially the tricep exercises.

Didnt do the bonus round but seriously considered it. I felt like i could have kept going but since i up'd the weights today i figured id wait until tomorrow, see how sore i was and possibly be thankful i didnt push myself too hard. I used just enough weight that i reeeeeeally had to pump out the last couple reps (I did 12 for all the ones where we were given a choice to set a goal). If i am not jelly armed tomorrow i will definatley definately do the bonus round next week.

Did really well at sticking to my meal plan today. Was really craving something sweet this afternoon but managed to hold out.

Day 3 - Manda

As far as I am concerned i have the two toughest days under my belt. Mind you i didnt test run Kenpo last week so i should probably be biting my tongue. Something tells me that is going to be intense.

Got up and did a 20 minute forward bends yoga routine. Pretty sure I have already mentioned how much i love Gaiam Yoga. Right after Christmas all their yoga dvds were half off and i went a little buck. I am ADDICTED to amazon. Its borderline pathetic. I spend more money on books then i do on food/clothes/anything really. I LOVE LOVE LOVE to read. And I also love Yoga. Anyway, i regress. I got Gaiam AM Yoga for your week which has 5 different 20min workouts and this morning the forward bends routine perfectly complimented the cardio workout from yesterday. It loosened up all the tight spots i had upon waking up this morning. I didnt get around to that half hour of Yoga before bed last night but i figure a yoga workout in the morning yesterday and then that cardio blast was more than enough.

Tonight is shoulders and arms. I want to really bring it with this one as i feel i kinda played it safe with last week's test run. At the end of the three months i want me some Michelle Obama arms! I am going to work out with 3, 5 and 8lb weights tonight. My brother has a set of 10's that he said i could have so i will see how tonight goes and maybe up it next week if i feel i need more.

I did pretty good yesterday as far as water consumption goes. The P90x book wants you to have 6-8, 12oz servings and i definately had 6 at the least, probably 7.

Today my goal is to start being more concious of my sodium consumption. It was something I have had on my radar but have never really given it enough thought to do something about because, lets face it, salt is ridiculously delicious.

Here is what the Mayo Clinic says about sodium:
"Your kidneys regulate the amount of sodium kept in your body. When sodium levels are low, your kidneys conserve sodium. When levels are high, they excrete the excess amount in urine.

If your kidneys can't eliminate enough sodium, the sodium starts to accumulate in your blood. Because sodium attracts and holds water, your blood volume increases. Increased blood volume, in turn, makes your heart work harder to move more blood through your blood vessels, increasing pressure in your arteries. Certain diseases such as congestive heart failure, cirrhosis and chronic kidney disease can lead to an inability to regulate sodium."

SIMONE - DAY 2 UPDATE

HEY!!

I DID MY USUAL WALK THIS EVENING WITH MY MOM AND MY DAD JOINED US TODAY TOO ( MY PARENTS ARENT TOGETHER BUT STILL GOOD FREINDS BUT MY FAMILY TIME LIKE THIS IS RARE *TEAR* IT WAS AWESOME AND MOTIVATING AT THE SAME TIME TO KILL IT WHEN I GOT HOME.

I GOT HOME CARDIO X ONE OF MY FAV WORKSOUTS AFTER KEMPO OF COURSE :)

I HATE THE YOGA PART IN THE BEGINNING BUT ITS WORTH IT .. I LOVE THE PUNCHING AND KICKING AND ALL THAT GOOD STUFF I DID EVERYTHING REALLY WELL TODAY .. THE ONLY THING I DONT DO IN ANY OF THE ROUTINES IN THE DREYA ROLLS AS MY TILED FLOOR IS TOO HARD AND I TRIED IT LAST TIME AND ALMOST MESSED UP MY BACK .. I DONT HAVE A MAT THAT IS THAT CUSHIONED SOO I USUALLY JUST RUN ON THE SPOT DURING THAT TIME.

I FELT GOOD ABOUT TODAY .. I DRANK QUITE A BIT OF WATER TODAY AND SOME GATORADE SOO NO DIZZY SPELLS YAY!

Manda - Day 2 Update

Cardio X Day,

Came home from work and got straight to it. Today's workout was intense. I dont think i have ever sweat so much in my life. I pushed really hard today and am really proud of how hard i brought it. Had to take a couple "press pause and chug some water" breaks but managed to do almost all reps with the exception of the steam engines. I crashed halfway through those. Oh, and the squats when it got to the jumping at the end. Jeeeeeeeeesus. I did about five of those before i bailed. Almost made it to the end of my second set of wacky jakcs but not quite. Not proud of that but its only Day 2. I will strive to do better.

I was definately laying on the floor gasping for air at the end of the dvd. Definately did way better this time around then last week's test run.

I think my least favourite move in Cardio X is the cross, jab, hook, uppercut thingy. Not feelin that one at all. Not because its too hard i just....well, i just didnt like it. Cant explain it. Just didnt like it.


I feel the workout more in my muscles, especially in my legs and butt, directly after this workout more than i did yesterday.

Tommorrow is shoulders and arms which isnt as sweat inducing as the past two days but still a good workout. I have fond memories of this one from last week.

Got a decent amount of water and green tea into me today so i am feelin good about that.

Gonna try and get my mom to take some pics tonight even though its day 2 already. Still would be good to have for posterity.

Simone i know you brought it today! I just know it! Thank you for keeping me motivated and for being so supportive. Miss you like its my full time job.

For now i am going to go soak in a hot bathtub while vibe'in out to some alicia keys. Later i am going to catch the new episode of Lost and then probably do a half hour evening/relax/stretch yoga session (definately gonna need a good stretch out after today) before bed (maybe sqeeze another tub soak in there) and then hit the sheets. My super duper most comfortablest sheets in the world. If you happen to have a Beddingtons near you.. go and get their 100% organic cotton sheets. Sweet mother of everything holy they are delicious to my body. Cant wait.

And cant wait to hear how you did suhmoeknee. love ya.

HOWEVER IM GOING TO CONTINUE WITH EVENINGS UNTIL WEEK 2 SOO AFTER MY DAY OF REST ON SUNDAY ILL START FRESH IN THE MORNING .. MONDAY MORNING. :) WISH ME LUCK!

Day 2 - Manda

I woke up this morning a little more tired than usual but once i got up and movin felt pretty damn good. Was surprised to find that i wasnt as sore as i anticpated being but i suspect that might have something to do with the 15min Evening Yoga routine I did right before bed and the 2nd tub soak of the night right after that.

Did a quick 20min Morning Yoga routine this morning (love me some Gaiam Yoga, Rodney Yee is my hero) and felt pretty optimistic about today.

I was excited to see how Simone faired out the night before. After reading her post i was comforted to see we are more or less on the same page. I definately couldnt do all the reps on some exercises either and had to take wee breaks as well but overall still felt that i pushed myself.

Didnt put down measurements, goals and what not yesterday so i will now:

Age: 28
Height: 5'1
Weight on Day 1: 117.5lbs
Goal Weight on Day 90: 105lbs
Strenghts: Relatively flexible from previous yoga experience
Weaknesses: Upper body/core strength

Actually looking forward to tonight's cardio workout.

SOO I NEED TO GATORADE IT UP FROM NOW ON TO HELP ME GO ON .. I HAD TO TAKE 30 SECOND BREAKS EVERY NOW AND THEN BECAUSE OF DIZZINESS.

IM HAPPY TO SAY TO HELP WITH MY MOTIVATION MY WONDERFUL BF DID CORE SYNERGISTICS WITH ME IN MY LIVING ROOM LAST NIGHT AFTER I WALKED AROUND THE SAVANNAH WITH MY MOM 2.2 miLES (3.5 km) IN ROUGHLY 45 MINS (SHE DOESNT WALK THAT FAST) I CONSIDERED IT A WARM UP.

WE BOTH STARTED OFF BRIGHT EYED AND BUSHY TAILED BUT GOT VERY TIRED VERY QUICKLY AND WE BOTH WERE NOT ABLE TO FINISH THE FULL SETS OF A COUPLE THINGS AND YES I DID GIRLY PUSH UPS. MY CORE ISNT AS BAD AS I THOUGHT .. MY SUPER MAN BANANAS AND THOSE GENERAL MOVES WERE NOT AS BAD I WAS ABLE TO WORK THROUGH THEM I THINK DOING THE DVD UP TO 45 BEFORE HELPED ME WITH THAT :) .. I DID NOT DO THE BONUS ROUND BUT THAT WILL CHANGE IN ABOUT A MONTH I THINK LOL. I WAS FEELING SICK AT THE END OF IT ... ALMOST PUKING AND VERY SHAKY BUT EVERYTIME I PUSH MYSELF VERY HARD THIS HAPPENS SOO I WILL TRY TO PACE MYSELF A LITTLE BETTER TODAY.

MY GOAL TODAY IS TO DRINK ALOT MORE WATER AND GATORADE DONT CHEAT AND EAT HEALTHY TO GEAR MYSELF UP FOR TONIGHT TO SEE TONY AGAIN FOR CARDIO!!!! I LOVE THIS ONE :)

Day 1 - Core Synergistics

I have no core. Lets face it. I am core-less. If i were asked to superman/banana to save the life of myself and my family we would all die. Bottom line.

I did not do the bonus round. Not gonna lie to y'all. Didnt do it. Turned the dvd player off. But I will try next week. Do i feel guilty about it? A little. Simone if you did the bonus round i am going to feel like a pussy. That would for sure up my guilty quotient.

Regardless of my inadequacies i am still quite please with myself for coming home and getting right into it. I pushed myself harder today than i did when i was taking the dvds for a test run last week so i felt good about that. For the most part i am doing girly-on-my-knees pushups but hopefully that will change in the coming weeks. All in all a pretty good day.

Super pumped that we are doing this together suhmoeknee. I hope you got as sweaty and winded as i did today.

My goal for tomorrow is to drink more water. Mad amounts of water.

For now i am going to go soak my muscles in a well deserved hot lavender bath and then make a delicious veggie burger.

DAY 1: SIMONE

IM SUPER EXCITED TO TRY THIS FOR THE SECOND TIME .. I MADE IT TO DAY 45 LAST TIME BUT IM DETERMINED TO MAKE IT TO THE END THIS TIME :) I COULD NOT COMPLETE IT LAST TIME BECAUSE I WAS TRAINING FOR A HALF MARATHON AND IT WAS TOO HARD ON MY BODY .. GOOD NEWS IS I COMPLETED THE HALF MARATHON .. FIRST RACE I EVER DID IN MY LIFE .. OTHER THAN SWIMMING IN HIGH SCHOOL.

IM STARTING THIS JOURNEY UNFIT AGAIN .. BECAUSE THE LAST TIME I WORKED OUT STEADILY WAS FOR THE RACE IN NOVEMBER 2009 ITS NOW FEB 2010 .. I PLAN TO START THIS EVENING

NB: ONE OF MY GREATEST ACCOMPLISHMENTS WAS LOOSING 30LBS IN 2008 AND I HAVE SINCE GAINED ALMOST 25 OF THOSE LBS BACK .. SOO THE JOURNEY BEGINS AGAIN

Manda - Day 1

Day 1.

I first heard about p90x from Simone a couple months ago. Whenever i signed into msn her name mentioned p90x day whatever it was and i dismissed it the first couple times and then curiosity got the better of me and i went and wikipedia'd (nice use of wikipedia as a verb Manda) it and realized how insane and intense this program was. Simone instantly became my new hero. I didnt start right away as i had an upcoming jaw surgery and would be on a liquid diet for a lengthy period of time.

Fastforward to today. I am on the mend and eating again and have purchased the program and am ready to get at it. As fate would have it i went on msn today for the first time in months and low and behold simone happened to be on as well. We chatted for a bit and decided that we would both start p90x today and chronicle our results as a team!

I dont have Day 1 pictures but will post some tomorrow (or maybe tonight if i can find someone to take them)

I am going to do the "lean" version so that means today is the Core dvd. Not going to be easy.
